Critical Illness Cover Glasgow | Roxburgh Group

What is critical illness cover?

Critical illness protection covers you if you’re diagnosed with certain illnesses or diseases. It pays out a lump sum to help you and your loved ones manage should you become unable to work through your illness. If you provide for your family then it’s worth considering critical illness insurance to help protect against the impact a critical illness could have. The money could help you cover everything from household expenses, to mortgage payments, to changes to your home to help you cope with your illness. It can help improve your quality of life, give you flexibility with your finances and bring you a certain peace of mind.

How can we help?

Unless you fully understand the cover you’re getting it can be difficult to make sure you’ve got the right cover for you and your circumstances. We’re independent financial advisors, so we can bring you cover from all providers, not just a select few. Which means there are more options for us to help you choose from. We’ll also advise you of any exclusions under a certain policy, to make sure there are no nasty surprises waiting for you.

What should I look out for?

Like almost everything else, cheapest doesn’t always mean the best. For example, the cheapest car, or the cheapest holiday, or even the cheapest sandwich isn’t normally the best one. You’ll often find there are limitations to what you get. Well, it’s the same with critical illness cover. Price is always important, but it’s what you get for your money that’s ultimately important. Without independent advice, it can be very difficult to find cover that’s ideal for you.

What else is important?

Before you take out any critical illness cover you need to make sure you disclose your medical history and also that of your family. If you omit anything and then try to make a claim at a later date your insurer may refuse to pay out. The cost of cover will vary from person to person. It’s affected by a number of things, including:

  • Your age – the older you get the more it is likely to cost.
  • Your gender and overall health – the healthier you are the less the cover should cost.
  • Your job – if your job carries risk then you’ll pay more.
  • Hobbies / lifestyle – if you smoke, or take part in dangerous hobbies, you’ll pay more.
